How We Got Here

When Darby was young, he watched is grandparents farm fall apart due to an error in estate planning.  They called his uncle a crook and threw him off the farm. It all went down one day after grandma passed… the whole family was in an uproar.  Darby even fought his cousins for this bronze horse!

In the late 1970s Darby worked in the family’s Chrysler dealership; then interest rates spiked, and Chrysler nearly went bankrupt.  Darby transitioned to life insurance with a major carrier and drew from his family’s experience to become the advanced planning specialist for the region.  Mike joined the family business in 2006 and they created their own succession plan.  They were power users of The Living Balance Sheet from the beginning; an advanced financial organization tool.

What it all boils down to for us…  we want to help prevent “The Conflict.”  The conflict in families and the conflict in businesses that tear them apart.  In the end, it is not about dollars and digits on a financial statement.

Our team has over 60 years combined experience working with closely held family businesses; car dealers, developers, contractors, and serial entrepreneurs.  What gets us excited is the knowledge that our work is worth millions (sometimes tens-of-millions) of dollars to a client and their family over their lifetime.

Our Team

Darby J. Minnick CLU®, ChFC®

During the financial crisis of the late 1970s, Darby launched his career in the life insurance business. Through pure grit and determination, he became the Montana regional advanced planning director for a major life insurance company. In 2019, he wrote the book, The Team Approach, chronicling his 40 years of helping his clients with financial, estate and business planning. He strives to make a positive difference in the lives of everyone he meets.  Darby is grateful for the indomitable support of his wife Cheryl, and they live in Bozeman, Montana.

Michael Hixson

Michael now leads Bridge To Wealth Team, but started out in 2006 as Darby’s apprentice. Michael was able to learn many aspects of advanced strategies from the ground up. He has a passion for breaking down complex financial concepts into easy-to-understand building blocks. Michael has lived in Montana since childhood but studied engineering at Walla Walla University. Together with his wife and three children, Michael is rooted in Bozeman, Montana, and enjoys adventuring in the great outdoors.

Jake Larkey MBA

Originally from Kansas City, Missouri, Jake joined the firm in 2017. With a background in managing organizational growth, it was Jake’s desire to help businesses grow that brought him to the firm. Jake studied economics and political science while on a football scholarship and Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas. He earned a Masters of Business Administration from Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri. After getting married, Jake relocated to Bozeman to join his wife, a PhD graduate at Montana State University.

Hannah Chawngte

Hannah completed her masters in Family Financial Planning at Montana State University, Bozeman in 2022. Currently, she is a partner and Financial Representative with Bridge to Wealth Team. She collaborates closely with her team of financial professionals to apply advanced financial strategies, helping clients achieve their financial goals. Her journey in the financial sector began with hands on experience as an apprentice to a highly respected portfolio manager. She lives in Bozeman with her husband and two daughters. Outside of work, she enjoys playing badminton and hiking.
